Mountaineers for Integrity and Responsibility (MIR) is a grassroots movement of faculty, staff, alumni, students, and friends of WVU joining to restore the University's reputation for academic integrity in the wake of the Bresch scandal.

In April 2008, an independent panel concluded that top WVU administrators demonstrated flawed leadership in granting the governor's daughter a graduate degree she did not earn. WVU's reputation suffered unprecedented damage. Major donors withdrew support. Media reported across the country and as far as India and China this breach of academic integrity. The impact was widespread - felt in WVU's ability to secure grants, hire the best faculty, and recruit top graduate students - with likely consequences for undergraduate education and WVU's mission as a land grant, research university.
